Google Home Mini vs Amazon Echo Dot: Who wins?

Google Home Mini vs Amazon Echo Dot

Alexa, will you marry me?

This is probably the only request I’ve left to make. Have you tried voice assistants? They are AWESOME!!!! I’m not kidding, they are the modern equivalent of a butler, friend, personal assistant, all rolled into one steaming piece of technology. Amazon has ruled for a long time in this market but there is a new contender in the ring and a really impressive one I must say.  So ladies and gentlemen, in one corner we have the already proven Amazon Echo Dot while in the other corner we have the challenger Google Home mini. So, how does Google Home Mini compare to Amazon Echo Dot? Only time will tell. So let the Google Home Mini vs. Amazon Echo Dot match begin.

Both the speakers compared here are the smallest ones for each company’s product line. So the only comparison will be between GoogleHome Mini vs. Amazon Echo Dot and no other speaker of the companies.

Round 1: Hardware

Google Home Mini

The Google Home Mini has a very unique look, similar to a river pebble with the speaker covering the top region of the speaker. The charcoal grey color suits the overall look of his small beauty besides some amazing colors with charcoal and coral design features.

Amazon Echo Dot

The Amazon Echo Dot is the smallest speaker with a pancake makeup kit design. It is a small cylindrical speaker with a very attractive looking LED ring on top that changes color with different commands. The buttons are placed on the top so it is easily accessible by the users.

Round 2: Sound Quality

Amazon Echo Dot

The Echo Dot comes with a staggering 7 microphone array with a small 0.6-inch speaker. Amazon is a bit weaker when it comes to speaker quality. If we think about connecting external speakers then Amazon takes the cake with its 3.5 mm audio jack which is absent in Home Mini.

Google Home Mini

Home Mini has just 2 far-field mics but it compensates it with a 1.57-inch speaker. Google Mini is better in audio quality and less distortion at higher volumes. It seems like Google Home Mini wins this round.
This observation is for hearing music, whereas the voice of both the assistants is audible and very clear.

Round 3: Intelligence

Google Home Mini

Google has always been the company that has relied heavily on information and they are the largest hoarder of information in the world. So Google has information parsing knowledge of 20 years. Google assistant has the most natural feel and its complex algorithm helps it to understand even the most complex commands.

Amazon Echo Dot

Amazon’s Alexa has an upper hand when it comes to experience in this particular industry as they have a very strong record for the past 2 years. Alexa has an amazing number of skills and has a very varied range of commands for its users.

This round is very difficult to judge as both the companies have their own specialties that negate each other so this round seems a draw.

Round 4: Price

Both the speakers are currently priced at $50. So, at first sight, it seems a draw but you can have both the speakers for a far cheaper price depending on where and when you are buying.

Amazon Echo Dot

Amazon gives out discounts and special sales every now and then. The latest concluded Amazon Prime Day sale offered Echo Dot for around $30.

Google Home Mini

Google home Mini can be bought for around $35 right now and with the holiday season coming, the price may vary a bit more.

Conclusion

It seems that after 4 high tense rounds this match is a draw. If you ask me what my choice is then I would say, how can you expect a mother to choose among her children (Wink emoji ;P). So it is up to you to choose between Google Home Mini vs. Amazon Echo Dot. If you wish to integrate your business app with such smart speakers then you must talk to an expert voice tech integration company.
